Urgent Help Appeal – SWAT IDP’s Need You !!!
Dear All,
In 2009 Millions of people from SWAT have been displaced (know as
internally displaced people – IDP’s) due to unfortunate
circumstances. Many of the displaced people have taken refuge in
District Mardan NWFP Pakistan. Over 9 hundred thousand people have
found shelter from heat and dust in Government Schools of Mardan.
They are being cared and helped by different local, National &
International organizations with local community support in Mardan,
who have opened their hearts, homes and resources to help these
people in real need.
In addition, SEDA Pakistan performed a situation analysis in July
2009 in the two large refugee camps in Mardan established by the
Government with UNHCR & Other UN Agencies etc support. SEDA rapidly
determined their need and trying to solve the problems as per IDP’s
desire. The survey team interview 5,000 families about heir urgent
replacement need after returning to their homes. The team found the
following problems identified by the IDP’s;
·
Safe Drinking Water will be the first problem facing by the
returnees.
·
Education and health will be the second big problem, because in war
against Taliban everything destroyed, therefore health problem need
special focus to be solved on priority basis.
·
SWAT is a mountainous area, in winter the expected snow fall will
create problem for the people because in the war most of the houses
were destroyed by the Pak force air strike or by the Taliban
attackers.
·
The pregnant women need special attention in the pregnancy
highlighted by the UNICEF & WHO and special care is required for
them.
SEDA
Pakistan approach for the Highlighted issues;
·
SEDA decide to provide facilities that address their mental hardship
and Psychological needs. After the situation analysis, SEDA decide
to approach local, National & International donor’s agencies to
fulfill the existences gap with the help of their donations and
other expected support.
In addition, SEDA discover that because of traditional and cultural
barriers women don’t venture out of their tents and have suffered
through heat and other hygienic needs. SEDA distributed sanitation
packages to the women who are under extreme distress and discomfort.
As the 90% internally displaced people return their home town but
they still face problems mentioned above, SEDA board of director
decide to continuous SWAT people support with all available
resources and try to attract more people to support SEDA activities
in the area with the following possible support to address the
people need in the area.
SEDA staff discovered a need to provide education, soft drinking
water & mobile health facilities to treat the helpless people in the
area particularly children, pregnant women and elders, But we need
your help and support their education, to continuous to supply
medicine and treatment to children, women, infant and old.
Since 2006, SEDA Pakistan has worked in Mardan to implement its
education & Social development programs. SEDA partner’s communities
have made great progress in achieving higher children literacy
through its education program, better rural health through health
awareness and care program. Economic uplift through Microcredit
